In open unpaved composting, organic waste is composted directly on the topsoil (without soil sealing). In this case, special requirements must be met with regard to the location (e.g. groundwater protection). The higher the annual precipitation, the more difficult it is to maintain optimal care. Composting next to a roadside is ideal because in this case, tractors can stay on the paved area, with only the compost windrow lying on the unpaved area.
