Mechanical and Biological Treatment plant (MBT)
Τhe biowaste is led to the Composting Unit for biological treatment in closed, horizontal aerobic bioreactors, where it stays for at least 2 weeks in the composting boxes in a fully controlled environment, with respect to the prevailing temperature, humidity and ventilation conditions.
Aerobic treatment is carried out, under controlled conditions, and a hygienized and partially stabilized organic material is obtained.
The organic material produced is then unloaded to the maturation shed and strewn in trapezoidal piles, where it remains for an appropriable period. A specialized windrow turner is used for effective compost turning, when needed, according to temperature, oxygen and humidity onsite measurements.
The stabilized product is finally led to the Refinery Unit, where the matured organic material is separated from the residual fraction
